Parking and access in Ilford

The roads around the stations and the town centre sit in Redbridge controlled parking zones, and the operating hours differ from zone to zone. In a controlled street a removal lorry cannot legally wait in a resident bay during controlled hours, so the practical answer is a bay suspension: the council reserves the bays outside your home for the day. Applying is technically the resident’s job, because the council needs your details and payment. But you do not have to handle it alone. Not every street needs a suspension, and it is one of the first things we check at survey. If you do not need to pay the council, we will not book one. Two of the big roads around the area are TfL red routes: the North Circular at the bottom of Ilford Hill and Eastern Avenue up by Gants Hill, where stopping is restricted at the best of times, so on addresses fronting them the plan is usually a side-road bay nearby rather than a suspension outside the door.

A word to the well-meaning neighbour with the cones: Redbridge treats holding a bay with cones or other objects as an offence, so the space is booked properly rather than guarded on the day. The terraced streets around Valentines Park and Cranbrook Road bring narrow front doors and turning stairs, and we protect them with floor coverings and doorframe guards on every job. In the semis of Seven Kings, Goodmayes and Clayhall it is the extensions that set the job: loft conversions add a flight and a tight turn at the top, and wardrobes that went up in pieces come down the same way.

The street scene matters as much as the kerb. The High Road itself carries buses and shopfront deliveries all day, so flats above the shops usually load from a side street instead. In the new-builds around the stations the concierge books the lift and the loading runs to a window, and we flag all of it at survey so the booking is in your name before move day.
