If you are looking for a storage unit in Barking that you can drive to and open whenever you like, we will be straight with you: that is self-storage, and we are not it. What we offer is container storage. We collect your things from your door in a sealed 250 cu ft container, store that container at our own yard, and bring it back when you are ready. You never hire a van, and you never carry a wardrobe down a self-storage corridor. Between a completion date that slips, a chain that will not line up and a rented house on the Becontree estate being turned around between tenants, plenty of Barking homes need somewhere for their furniture to sit for a while. For most people in the middle of a move, this is the better fit.

We are Aviv Removals, a family-run firm based in Harlow on the Essex border, and the yard where your container sits is ours, not rented space in someone else’s warehouse. Adam, our owner, has been in the trade for more than fifteen years, and every collection is run by one trained crew of our own, the same crews that carry out storage in London and house removals across the capital every week. In Barking that means we already know the cottage streets of Becontree where a front drive decides whether the lorry needs the road at all, the Victorian terraces round the abbey where the staircase turns on the landing, and the new blocks at Barking Riverside where the concierge books the service lift before we arrive.

Booking storage is one step: fill in the form or call 0207 846 0282. We confirm how many containers you need and the access at both ends, then you get an accurate written quote, and the price we agree is the price you pay.

What storage in Barking costs

Our rates are published and simple. Pricing is per 250 cu ft container, per week:

How long you storeRate per 250 cu ft container
Up to 8 weeks£20 + VAT per week
From 8 weeks£15 + VAT per week

Add VAT and the rates come to £24 and £18 a week. One rate covers one sealed container for one week, loaded by our crew at your address and stored at our own yard under 24 hour security and CCTV. There is a quirk worth knowing before you book a shorter stay to be safe: the tier covers the whole stay, so a container that stays eight weeks costs £120 + VAT in total while the same container for seven weeks costs £140 + VAT. Crossing the eight week line costs less than stopping a week earlier.

The exact total comes from the survey rather than a guess over the phone. Two Barking homes with the same number of bedrooms can fill a different number of containers, and a flat above a shop on the old town high street with no loading bay takes longer to pack than a semi with the van on the front drive. The survey captures the container count and the access before you commit, which is why the quote we agree is the price you pay. If the storage is riding alongside a move rather than standing on its own, the move itself is quoted from our published removals guide ranges, which start at two-bedroom homes.

What moves the total up or down:

FactorWhat it does to your storage quote
VolumeThe biggest factor. The container count decides most of the total, and the survey counts it honestly rather than guessing low to win the booking.
Length of stayThe tier your whole stay lands on. Cross eight weeks and the weekly rate drops from £20 + VAT to £15 + VAT, backdated to week one.
Access at both endsStairs, kerb space and carrying distance at your address change the loading time. The survey prices that in before you sign anything.
PackingProfessional wrapping and packing is available for items going into storage. It costs more than self-packing but loads the container denser, which can save a whole container.
Timing with a moveBooked together, the storage rides the same job as the removal: one crew, one invoice, nothing handled twice.

Payment is straightforward. A 10% deposit at booking secures your collection date, and the balance is due after the job is complete. We take payment by bank transfer, card or cash, and the survey and the quote cost you nothing.

Parking and access on collection day

Barking is a suspension area, and it is worth understanding what that means before collection day. Much of the borough sits inside a controlled parking zone, and the council has been extending the zones street by street. On a controlled street a collection lorry cannot legally wait in a resident bay during operating hours. Where there is no driveway, the practical answer is a bay suspension: Barking and Dagenham reserves the bays outside your home for the day. The bays here are five metres long, so a single bay never covers a 7.5 tonne lorry. Reserve two bays, not one, and it needs room to work.

Barking and Dagenham charges £154.80 per bay, per day, with a £33.90 administration fee on top. A bay held for a full week of five working days is charged at £463.60, and an overrun suspension costs £303. Applications must be in at least five working days ahead, for a specific date and purpose, and the council asks for longer in some cases. The council can also site the bays up to 50 metres from your address, which usually still leaves the lorry close to the door, and the fees are not refundable if your dates change, so the application wants to be in well ahead of collection week. The Barking and Dagenham parking suspension page lists the current fees and takes the application.

Applying is technically the resident’s job, because the council needs your details and payment. But you do not have to handle it alone. We tell you at survey whether your street needs one, and if you would rather not deal with it at all, we help arrange the suspension with Barking and Dagenham Council (council fee applies). Not every street needs help from the council, and it is one of the first things we check at survey. If you do not need to pay the council, we will not book anything.

On the Becontree estate streets many houses have a front drive, and where the lorry can stand on it the suspension question disappears; we check that at survey before you spend anything with the council. Two of the big roads around the borough are TfL red routes, the A13 through the south and the North Circular, which ends its run here, where stopping is restricted at the best of times, so on addresses fronting them the plan is usually a side-road bay nearby rather than a suspension outside the door.

The building matters as much as the kerb. Round the old town by the abbey the Victorian and Edwardian terraces bring narrow front doors and turning stairs, and we protect them with floor coverings and doorframe guards on every collection. In the new blocks at Barking Riverside and the regenerated Gascoigne streets, the concierge books the service lift and the loading runs to a window, and we flag all of it at survey. Flats above the shops on the old town high street usually load from a side street, because the frontage carries buses and deliveries all day.

The full neighbourhood rundown, from suspensions to the red routes, is on our removals in Barking page, and the same access knowledge runs the storage collection.

Why choose Aviv for storage in Barking

  • Our own yard, not a broker’s arrangement. Most removal companies that offer storage hand your goods to a third-party warehouse. We do not. The container stays at our facility in our custody, start to finish.
  • Loaded once, sealed in front of you. Nothing is decanted into a shared aisle or stacked under a stranger’s sofa. The seal does the security until the day we bring it back.
  • Insurance included. Insurance for goods in storage is in the price rather than sold as an add-on at the end.
  • One trained crew, all the way through. The crew that loads your container is the crew that returns it. No subcontractors.
  • 5.0 on Google, across 160+ five-star reviews. That is the rating customers leave, not a claim we make about ourselves.

This is the same container storage in London service we run across the city.

One load, one seal, one company accountable from the first box to the last. That is the whole product.

Areas we cover from Barking

Barking sits inside our wider East London coverage. Within the town we collect from the town centre and the old streets by the abbey, Upney, Becontree, Becontree Heath, Chadwell Heath, Eastbury, Thames View and Barking Riverside, and the streets out towards Dagenham. The containers run between your door and our Harlow yard, so the storage follows the same routes our removal lorries already travel every week.

Storage plus the move, and the packing

Most Barking storage starts with a move rather than a unit, and that is where using a removal company pays. Booked together, the collection and the removal are one job: the same crew wraps your furniture, loads what is coming with you onto the van and what is not into sealed containers, and the redelivery is coordinated with your actual move-in. Our removals with storage in London page covers the combined booking, which is usually cheaper than two separate ones, and there is one company to call when anything needs sorting.

If you would rather not face the boxes at all, our packing service covers everything from the whole house to just the kitchen, and professional wrapping is available for items going into storage, which loads the container denser and can save a container’s worth of weekly rate. Both are quoted alongside the job, so there is one price for the lot.

Common questions about removals in Barking

How much does storage in Barking cost?
Storage is priced per 250 cu ft container per week. It is £20 + VAT per week for stays up to 8 weeks and £15 + VAT per week from 8 weeks onward, with insurance for goods in storage included. Your exact quote depends on how many containers you need and the access at both addresses, and it is set in writing after a free survey.
Is this the same as self-storage?
No. Self-storage means a unit at a facility that you access yourself whenever you like. Our container storage is collected from your door, sealed after loading and stored at our own yard, then redelivered when you want it. You do not visit the container because we handle all of it. If you need frequent access to your things, self-storage is the better product for you.
What fits in one container?
Each container holds about 250 cubic feet, roughly a Luton van load, enough for the contents of a one to two bedroom flat including furniture and boxes. Larger homes simply use more containers, each loaded and sealed separately. The survey works out the container count before anything is booked.
Is my furniture insured while it is in storage?
Yes. Insurance for goods in storage is included in the storage price, with no separate policy and nothing added at the end. While your goods are on the road between your Barking address and the yard, they travel under our goods in transit cover of £50,000, backed by £1,000,000 of public liability cover.
Can I get into my container during the storage period?
Not the way you would visit a self-storage unit. Each container is sealed after loading and stays sealed until redelivery, so getting at items mid-stay means breaking and re-applying the seal. What you can do is ask us to bring the container back, in whole or in part, with reasonable notice.
Where are my belongings actually stored?
At our own yard in Harlow on the Essex border, a run up the M11 from Barking. It is our facility, not rented space in someone else's warehouse, and it is not open to the public. The yard is fenced and gated with 24 hour security and CCTV.
Do you collect from all of Barking?
Yes. Barking town centre and the old streets by the abbey, Upney, Becontree, Becontree Heath, Chadwell Heath, Eastbury, Thames View and Barking Riverside, and the streets out towards Dagenham. Collection and redelivery are part of the quoted job, so there is no van hire and no second company to coordinate.
Do I need a parking suspension for the collection?
It depends on your street, and it is one of the first things we check at survey. Much of Barking sits inside a controlled parking zone, and where the kerb is controlled the practical answer is a bay suspension, which Barking and Dagenham charges at £154.80 per bay per day plus a £33.90 administration fee, with applications needing at least five working days' notice. You can apply to the council yourself, or we help arrange the suspension with Barking and Dagenham Council (council fee applies).
Can storage be booked together with the move?
Yes, and it is the most common way our storage is booked. The same crew loads the van and the containers on the same day, so nothing is handled twice, everything runs on one accurate quote and one invoice, and the redelivery is coordinated with your actual move-in date.
How long can I keep a container for?
As long as the job needs. A gap of a few weeks between homes and a stay of several months while a Becontree let is refurbished between tenants are both normal for us. The rate is per container per week, and if your stay reaches eight weeks the weekly rate drops to £15 + VAT for the whole stay.
Can I book storage without a move?
Yes. We bring the empty container to your address, load it, seal it in front of you and take it to our yard. The same rates apply, and the whole thing is quoted as one job. Our container storage in London page covers how a storage-only booking runs from seal to redelivery.
How do I get a quote for storage in Barking?
Fill in the form on this page or call 0207 846 0282. We reply within one working day, confirm the container count and the access at both ends, usually on a video call or a walk-through, and follow it with an accurate written quote. A 10% deposit at booking secures your collection date and the balance is due after the job is complete.
