How your piano move works

Uprights, grands and digitals

An upright piano is one piece of furniture, roughly, until you try to move it. Heavy at the top, awkward on a staircase turn, and unforgiving of shortcuts. We move them upright, strapped and padded, with the route walked in advance.

A grand is a dismantling job. The lid, legs and lyre come off in the right order, the hardware is bagged so reassembly is a puzzle you can actually finish, and the body travels on a padded board. This is slow, careful work and we quote it as such.

A digital piano or keyboard is a different risk: lighter, but full of electronics that dislike cold vans and knocks. It travels wrapped and padded like the rest, and it is why we ask what the instrument actually is before we quote.

Pianos inside a house move

Most of the pianos we move belong to families who are moving house anyway, and the worst outcome is a general crew discovering the piano on the day.
